A little history.....
The family business began with Lorenzo Doud, who, in 1843, moved to Miami County from New York to farm 80 acres of Indian Reserve land. Around 1885, Brenson Doud and his wife Ida took over the farm and planted the first commercial orchard in 1894. The orchard consisted of 10 acres with such apple varieties as Tulpehocken, Rambo, Vandevere Pippin and Strawberry.
In 1914, Lorenzo, Brenson's eldest son, expanded the orchard to 20 acres. He became known as one of the most progressive fruit growers in Indiana. Lorenzo began shipping produce to eastern cities as well as continuing to sell locally. Lorne(Lorenzo's son) and Betty Doud farmed and grew the orchard from the 1960's-1980's with their children, Steven, David and Diane. Steven(Lorne's eldest son) and his wife Connie took over management in 1994 and continued to expand the varieties of apples grown at Doud Orchards including some very special varieties ONLY GROWN HERE AT DOUD'S! Doud Orchards now sits on 65 acres of land.
During this time, over the last 125 years, over 100 varieties of apples have been grown here at Doud's. This is what makes our APPLE CIDER SO VERY SPECIAL! We have heritage/antique apples, many of which are very rare, still grown here today! We are well-known for our apple cider, made with many varieties of apples, creating deeply complex flavors. We have specialty ciders available along with our "HOUSE" apple cider! All of our cider is pressed onsite in our cider room...and yes, we sell unpasturized apple cider made with our apples!!
In September of 2019, our 125th anniversary in business, We, Justin & Sarah Driscoll purchased the orchard from Steven & Connie Doud! We are continuing the family tradition of running the orchard with our 3 children, Drew, Justin and Mia, just as the Doud's did with their family over the years. The Doud's have given us the concrete foundation needed to run this historic business! We have worked side by side with the Doud's learning and cultivating our skills to continue their traditions along with paving a path for new ideas and traditions of our own! We want our customers and friends to feel like family and hope that you will make the trek to see our beautiful store and orchard sometime! We don't currently offer u pick apples.....we are working towards having future
